Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section)

“Flyer” donor-facing newsletter

The Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) "Flyer" is a quarterly donor-facing newsletter designed to share the stories of the service and encourage continued support for the charity. The eight-page newsletter, distributed by mail and digitally, includes a message from the section president, several patient stories, and articles on clinical services.

While at RFDSSE, I played an integral role in developing and creating this newsletter. My responsibilities included gathering images, writing the stories and the opening presidential address.

One key challenge was adhering to patient-clinician confidentiality, which limited access to former patients or service users willing to share their stories publicly. To overcome this, I employed creative approaches to find and engage individuals willing to share their experiences.

As the publication was printed and delivered by a mail house, I managed tight deadlines and production schedules to ensure the newsletter was approved, designed, and printed on time for the quarterly distribution.

“Community Conversations” patient-facing newsletter

The Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) "Community Conversations" newsletter is a monthly publication aimed at patients and service users. It shares clinic dates for remote locations, health news, promotions, and stories about staff and supporters.

During my tenure at RFDSSE, I was responsible for the creation and distribution of this newsletter. My duties included reaching out to key internal stakeholders to gather essential health information, clinic dates, and news. I wrote the publication and gathered the necessary approvals. Once ready for distribution, I loaded it into our email direct mail (EDM) software, sent it out, and formatted it for printing to be left in waiting rooms at RFDS service locations.

Timeliness was critical for this newsletter to ensure that people did not miss the day the Flying Doctor was visiting their town, thereby securing access to vital healthcare services.
