Chris O'Brien Lifehouse story: Life-Saving Cancer Surgery for Blayney Grandmother

This statewide Prime7 News story showcases the life-saving work of the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse (COBLH) Head & Neck Cancer Team. The feature highlights Mrs Marie Hoadley, an 84-year-old grandmother from Blayney, who was diagnosed with stage four tongue cancer after a routine dental check-up. Thanks to the swift action of Professor Carsten Palme's team, Mrs Hoadley underwent critical surgery. This story underscores the importance of regular dental checks and showcases COBLH's commitment to top-tier cancer care.

To secure this coverage, I leveraged my skills as a former video journalist, filming interviews with Marie, her daughter Philippa, and Professor Palme. I documented both the lead-up and the surgery to remove Marie's cancer and included a Dropbox link to these interviews, b-roll, and photographs in the media release. The story's alignment with the national "Dental Health Week" campaign reinforced the importance of timely dental check-ups and addressing health concerns promptly.

In addition to the television segment, the story also featured in two regional print media outlets.

I am deeply grateful and humbled to tell these stories, using creative and genuine storytelling to highlight the lifesaving work at COBLH — special thanks to Marie and Philippa for sharing their journey and allowing me to document their experience.
